The Employment & Skills Service is part of Coventry City Council.  We work with a range of delivery partners to provide a wide portfolio of top quality support to Coventry residents of all ages who are looking for work.  We work with partners across the city and our Employer Hub actively works with local employers to generate opportunities for local people. 

Our friendly and welcoming Job Shop is situated in Coventry City Centre. We are here to support all Coventry residents to search for employment, training, apprenticeships and work placements.  People can explore a wide range of local vacancies that are updated daily and access training opportunities.  

We also provide ground-breaking specialist support for local residents who face multiple and sometimes complex barriers that make it hard for them to find a job.  The Job Shop and our exciting range of specialist employment support programmes are among the very best support available in the UK 

What is the job role?

To lead the development, design and delivery of Employment and Skills programmes focusing on higher Skills for Coventry Adults. Develop initiatives which support and exploit the opportunities provided by funding linked to Adult Education and Employment within the City and Region.

Taking a ONE Coventry approach to tackling employment and skills challenges.  Working closely with the Coventry Job Shop, the City Council’s Adult Education Service, FE and training providers to ensure the best possible outcomes for local residents. The role will oversee key change projects including accessing new sources of funding, ensuring all partners work effectively together and working across services to develop new models of delivery.  Ensuring Coventry’s interests are represented at a regional level and working closely with staff across other local authorities to ensure local priorities can be met is an essential part of the role. 

The Post Holder will represent the Service at partnership and steering group meetings across a wide range of forums and will need to demonstrate effective communication, relationship-building and negotiation skills. Being able to write effective and impactful reports, press releases and other documents will also be key to this role.

This role is a fixed term contract until December 2023.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for candidates with an appreciation of the importance of employment and skills support and a good understanding of how this provision can transform lives and communities. 

You should have an understanding of the local and national labour market and how to effectively deliver projects when measured against targets. You will also need to be highly organised and a team player to deliver a wide range of KPI’s on time, with a high level of detail and accuracy. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious candidate wanting to advance their career and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of employment and skills delivery in our city.  .

Verbal and written communication skills are essential as well as the ability to, present data and reports which are accurate, well written, compelling and persuasive.
