What is the job role?

This is an exciting and sustainable career opportunity which will allow you to use you experience and knowledge as well as continuing to develop your skills by being part of a dedicated, supportive and integrated flood risk management & drainage team.  

As the Flood Risk Engineering and Strategy Officer you will key to ensuring that, as the Lead Local Flood Authority, Coventry City Council meets the statutory requirements of the EU (European Union) Floods Directive, the Land Drainage Act 1991, the Flood Risk Regulations 2009 and the Flood and Water Management Act 2010. You will assist with continued development of policy, strategy and key documents relating to flood risk. You will be responsible for the investigation of flooding incidents within the city and ensure all data, surveys and reports with regard to flood and surface water management is maintained.

A major part of the role will be to propose solutions, prepare designs and agree modifications to drainage improvement and local flood risk mitigation schemes. Including, preparing works orders for drainage improvement and flood risk mitigation schemes, monitor and review costs and agree final accounts for authorisation and to be responsible for the Highways Drainage budget.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone with knowledge of Flood Risk Management, complex drainage projects and the maintenance of highway and land drainage networks including the legislation covering these areas. The Ability to negotiate, influence and work successfully with contractual and risk management partners and developers is key to this role. It would be an advantage to have experience of working for or with Local Authority highways maintenance sector, drainage or the flood risk sector.  

As a successful candidate you will need to have a full current UK driving licence. You will have the ability to use and understand IT systems in an office-based environment including basic CAD, GIS/MapInfo and MS Office programs. You will have good communication skills and have the ability to work to deadlines and work under pressure.

  • Coventry City Council as LLFA investigates all flood incidents reported on a priority basis. These investigations follow a set format. From your experience please can you describe what form this type of investigation would take?
