About the team we are recruiting to
The Facilities Management Service comprises six diverse and multi-disciplined teams that are responsible for the safe operation, management, maintenance and efficiency of the Council’s property assets. The teams provide a range of services and support to the Council’s operational, commercial and schools portfolios ensuring the Councils legislative obligations are fulfilled.
The teams are:
- Repairs and Maintenance Team
- Compliance and Surveying Team
- Building Cleaning Team
- Corporate Property Information Team
- Energy Management Team
- Facilities Management & Site Services Team
Property Information Team is responsible for ensuring all property plans and data are accurate and up to date fulfilling the Council’s obligations for reporting, ensuring Council assets are appropriately insured including the monitoring of Business Rates information.
The function works across the Council with specific detail towards the school portfolio in planning for school place capacity, ensuring compliance with government funding obligations and issuing landlords’ consents.

What is the job role?
We are looking for an Operational Property Surveyor to join our Corporate Property Information Team. In this role you will be leading on the production of new CAD drawings for recently acquired properties and updating existing drawings for extensions and internal modifications. This information then feeds into numerous property related systems for colleagues in Facilities Management to access and carry out their duties. The role also includes assisting in the management of service charges where operational property is leased to an external organisation. This is essential to managing the leases and income generation.
The main duties of this role include:
- Lead in the production of CAD drawings
- Assist in the creation of lease drawings where internal to larger buildings
- Undertake site inspections/surveys and feasibility studies
- Provide CAD training and advise
- Asist in the management of service charges for leases in operational buildings
- Work with colleagues to ensure information to calculate service charges is available to required schedules
- Manage and maintain the relevant information related to operational leases and service charges on the property management system
- Assist in the preparation of service charge budgets
This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
Who are we looking for?
To be considered the ideal candidate for this role you will have a practical experience of producing accurate building drawings in CAD, producing net and gross internal area information.
You will have a methodical approach to problem solving and good analytical skills, with the ability to work to high levels of accuracy within strict deadlines.
You will have strong organisational skills and the initiative to prioritise your own workload. You must have a flexible approach and be able to take on new tasks or projects.
You will be willing to develop new skills and thrive in a busy environment, maintaining a great attention to detail along with excellent communication skills.
