Our Values

It’s great to know that you are interested in working with us at Coventry City Council. As a prospective employee, it is important that everyone who works for us is committed to our One Coventry values and shares our commitment to becoming a more diverse and inclusive organisation.

Our Values are:

About the team we are recruiting to

Coventry City Council’s Migration Team is an innovative and dynamic team that is focussed on meeting the needs of newly arriving communities in the city and supporting integration.  The team works with internal and diverse external partners to deliver projects and other interventions based on our migrant needs assessment and other evidence related to the barriers faced by new migrants.

Coventry was one of the first cities to welcome Syrian refugees in 2014, and the team leads a partnership in delivering a resettlement programme welcoming some of the most vulnerable individuals fleeing conflict and persecution from Syria and the Middle-East.  Work is centred on enabling refugees to make Coventry their new home, living with dignity and respect as well as contributing positively to our vibrant and growing city.

Building on Coventry’s history of welcoming new arrivals into the city, we work towards maintaining a strategic overview of our refugee and migrant population including people seeking asylum dispersed to the City.  With over £3.5m already brought into the city, from external funding we establish collaborative partnerships to maximise interventions to promote community cohesion and enable everyone to contribute towards making Coventry a place where people choose to live, learn and work.

The Migration Team celebrates diversity while also ensuring rights, opportunities and responsibilities are understood. Projects including:

  • Building Bridges

  • Ignite Integration Programme, and

  • MiFriendly Cities

aim to promote a more holistic approach towards integration by involving local communities, maximising skills and cultural awareness and creating opportunities for social and economic growth in the city.

What is the job role?

The ‘Your Vision, Your Future’ programme funded until December 2023 through the ESF and Youth Employment Initiative seeks to support young people aged 16-29 from refugee and migrant communities who are NEET to move into education, training, employment or apprenticeships.

To ensure the successful delivery of this programme, the Migration Team are seeking to recruit a project manager to join the team. The project manager will be responsible for overseeing the successful delivery of one of the programmes and will have experience of contract/partnership management; key stakeholder engagement; working with internal and external senior officers and be able to demonstrate the achievement of project targets; expenditure and have experience of staff management.

Please note, recruitment is subject to final political approval and authorization of contracts.

Your Vision Your Future Project Manager post is part-funded by the European Social Fund and supported under the Youth Employment Initiative

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for highly motivated individuals with experience of project managing complex grant funded programmes such as European Social Fund (ESF), Urban Innovative Actions (UIA) and/or Home Office Funding and who have considerable experience of working with migrant communities.

The successful candidate will also support the Programme Delivery Manager to bid for additional funding and in doing so be responsible for building cross sector partnerships between agencies such as voluntary and community organisations, local service providers and private sector organisations to improve services for migrants in the city.

Working with the Head of Service and the Programme Delivery Manager, you will be a natural self-starter with a can-do attitude. The ideal candidate should have excellent communication and written skills, be able to work on their own initiative and the ability to meet deadlines.

When applying for this role you will be asked to write a personal statement. When writing your personal statement please include narrative against the following three questions:

  • Please outline your experience of project management, in particular with refugees and asylum seeker communities
  • Please outline your experience of developing and supporting partnership working in the context of managing a project
  • Please outline your experience of managing staff.
