About the team we are recruiting to

The Adult Education Service is part of Coventry City Council.  We provide a wide range of courses for Coventry residents age 19+ and much of our provision is targeted at people with the highest levels of need. 

We offer long courses in English, maths, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), ICT/Digital and vocational subjects such as Early Years, along with provision for adults with learning disabilities.  

We also offer a very wide range of short community courses in arts, crafts, music, dance, exercise, fitness and family learning.  In addition, we run a highly supportive study programme for young people.

Our work-based learning offer includes Apprenticeships in the following subject areas: 

  • Nursery Workers
  • Teaching Assistants
  • Leadership/Management; and 
  • Customer Care. 

We also provide courses for adults who are seeking work via the Council’s Job Shop. 

Our main base is at Southfields Old School, CV1 5EJ, with provision delivered at around 25 other sites within Coventry, mostly in areas of highest need.

What is the job role?

To support delivery, monitoring and reporting of Coventry City Council’s Make Your Money Work project within the Employment & Skills Service. This is a new initiative to increase knowledge, confidence and skills in financial literacy among adults within community settings. The funding allocation is via the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) as part of central government investment in a Multiply Fund to improve numeracy skills among the adult population.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Who are we looking for?

This part time role will include assisting with project set up activities, responding to enquiries from learners, tutors and partners, and assisting with tracking engagement and achievement of project beneficiaries. As such we are looking for an administrator with experience of a customer service environment, dealing with a wide range of people in order to handle enquiries and resolve queries; preferably within an educational setting.

You will require knowledge of financial literacy including personal financial management, budgeting, and investing. In addition, you will be able to demonstrate skills to maintain computerised and filing systems, retrieving of information as requested to include creation of databases and spreadsheets as appropriate and provision of information and reports as required. 

Following recommendations from Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) for an additional pre employment check with effect 1 Sept 22, please note, an online search may form part of this recruitment process.

Fixed term until end of March 2024 (in the first instance) 

Salary will be pro rata to the number of hours worked
