Our Values are:

About the team we are recruiting to

Children’s Services is a service area within Coventry City Council that supports children and families across the city.

The vision and commitment of Children’s Services ensures that a high quality and child centred service is provided, ensuring the right help at the right time and engaging with partners.

Children’s Services is committed to outcome-driven and impactful interventions and measures success by the outcome for children and families.

The service reflects and responds to the changing needs of Coventry and its population and understands the need for a reflective and flexible service with a strong Early Help offer to provide early and targeted intervention so that families can access the support they need from a variety of partners and agencies.

A successful recruitment and retention strategy has resulted in a committed and stable workforce who are dedicated to delivering excellent services to children and young people in Coventry.

If you are an experienced social worker or looking to return to practice we want to hear from you. It is a great time to join our diverse workforce within Children’s Services, with great opportunities to develop your learning, ongoing training to improve practice, a clear way to progress through our progression pathway, and an engaging team that recognises success and values staff.

What is the job role?

Deputy Children’s Home Manager .

Do you have experience of working within a residential setting with ‘looked after’ children and young people?

Coventry City Council has 5 homes for children across the city, operating as small family-style homes with each caring for up to four young people.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, passionate and resilient  Deputy Manager with a good knowledge of residential care and experience of managing staff.

We strive to achieve positive outcomes for our vulnerable children, through the delivery of high-quality children’s residential care for those children in need of this level of support, many of whom have additional needs and may have experienced trauma.

When we asked our young people what they would want from someone caring for them, they said:

 We would like –
- to be listened to
- to be treated with respect, dignity and individuality
- to feel safe
- to be helped to achieve our full potential
- to be supported to be independent
- to be cared for by people who won’t give up on us
- to build and maintain positive relationships and where possible, not to move to far away    from where we used to live and to stay in the same school
- to make happy memories

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Who are we looking for?

You will need to provide effective support to your staff team, identifying strengths and gaps in knowledge and skills and support them with the implementation of care plans.

You will provide supervision, training, and professional development opportunities to your team and across the wider service.

You will participate in the recruitment and selection of employees, their induction and post-appointment assessments.

You will need to work to the existing ethos, policies and procedures, undertake relevant training and development activities and respond positively to new initiatives, implementing change as needed, whilst also having a good understanding of the legislative requirements of the role.

You need to be able to use your own initiative and be expected to run the home in the managers absence, undertake on-call duties as part of a rota and at times be required to work shifts.

We welcome applications from established and experienced Deputy Managers and applications from residential workers with the skills, experience and drive to progress and support our children to achieve their full potential.
