About the team we are recruiting to

Coventry City Council is the 9th biggest city in England and has ambitious plans to grow its economy, reputation and quality of life, including by the delivery of the title UK City of Culture in 2021.

The Council’s Business Investment and Culture service has a remit for economic development, inward investment, sustainability, culture, sport, tourism and events.  The team we are recruiting to is responsible for a range of functions, including: 

  • Delivery of festivals and major events
  • Promotion of leisure and business tourism
  • Operation of the convention bureau; and 
  • Management of the fourteenth century St Mary’s Guildhall.  

It is a lively group of largely specialist officers with responsibility for strategy, funding and project delivery across its sections.  It has recently expanded significantly, taking on new staff to develop and deliver activities stimulated by the title of UK City of Culture in 2021 and being a host of the Commonwealth Games in 2022.

What is the job role?

 

Have you got a passion for Coventry, the ability to deliver superior customer service and support the city during its exciting year as the UK City of Culture?

 

We are looking for an enthusiastic and hard-working candidate to lead our brand new visitor information facilities by providing a friendly welcome and insight into the city of Coventry.

You will have responsibility to represent and promote Coventry in a positive way, while supervising and motivating Visitor Information staff.

You will also be required to organise staffing of the Visitor Information Centre(s).

 

Our Visitor Centre opening hours are:

  • 10am – 5pm (Monday – Friday)
  • 10am – 5.30pm (Saturday)
  • 11am – 4pm (Sunday)

 

Please note, the full time salary quoted will be pro rata to the part time contractual hours.

Who are we looking for?

 

This role offers you a unique chance to promote Coventry during an extremely significant time.

In return, we can offer you a 12-month, fixed term contract in an exciting and fast-paced environment, providing you with the platform to be part of something big.

 

If you have an established knowledge of visitor attractions and tourism assets within Coventry and Warwickshire, would be an advantage, as would an understanding of the region’s cultural heritage and history.

Varied and flexible part-time working patterns are available – some including weekends and Bank Holidays.
