About the team we are recruiting to

Coventry is the 9th biggest city in England, and has ambitious plans to grow its economy, reputation and quality of life, including the delivery of its UK City of Culture title in 2021, and Commonwealth Games in 2022.

The Council’s ‘Business Investment and Culture’ service has a remit for economic development, inward investment, sustainability, culture, sport, tourism and events. It is a lively group of largely specialist officers with responsibility for strategy, funding and project delivery across its sections.  It has recently expanded significantly, taking on new staff to develop and deliver activities stimulated by the title of UK City of Culture in 2021 and being a host of the Commonwealth Games in 2022.

The Destination team we are recruiting to is responsible for a range of functions, including: 

  • Promotion of leisure and business tourism across diverse marketing channels
  • Operation of the Coventry and Warwickshire Convention Bureau
  • Provision of Coventry’s Visitor Information services
  • Working in partnership with the city’s visitor economy businesses
  • Delivery of Coventry’s Tourism Strategy

What is the job role?

 

We are seeking the right candidate to support our work to develop and manage relationships with key destination, leisure and business tourism stakeholders, specifically to stimulate economic growth and develop Coventry’s profile as a destination of distinction for conferencing, leisure and business tourism. 

This is an exciting opportunity to lead on the city’s contribution to delivering key partnership programmes, promoting Coventry as a destination of distinction.

 

Who are we looking for?

 

The successful applicant will need to generate income through the creation of commercial destination services where appropriate, and to attract and encourage large events and conferences to the city and sub-region, increasing visitor numbers and spend.

To manage the Service’s marketing output across all platforms, ensuring a coordinated approach to promoting the destination in partnership with key stakeholders across the destination, tourism, events and cultural sectors. 

 

This role offers a unique chance to significantly support Coventry’s success and legacy during its year as the UK City of Culture, helping to raise our profile.
